When designing envelopes, the construction of the envelopes impact the final print quality. Pre-converted envelopes, although more convenient and quicker to produce than converted envelopes, are a challenge because of the different thicknesses of paper passing through the press. From the photo above, you can see a standard envelope will have up to four layers of overlapping substrate. The location of the overlapping layers creates pressure gaps and variations in the printing. Fields of color have a tendency to show more than type, but will be present regardless.
